One of the most exciting things about being an educator is continuing to better my practice by learning with and learning from my colleagues. I began the Bilingual Study Group at PS 377K during my first year of teaching to address issues we all face teaching ELLs. I also headed up Family Math Game Night at PS 218X.
In addition, I have participated in various study groups including "lunch and learn" sessions focused on bilingualism and the integration of language into the math and science classroom. I have participated in Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop Reunion Saturdays, as well as Bank Street´s series for educators of ELLs.
I worked together with several of my bilingual colleagues on the creation of a word study program for Spanish Language Learners, and attended sessions focused on the use of the interactive whiteboard and iPads in the classroom.
I look forward to continuing to grow and learn as an educator in a new school community.
