Dear Reader,

In May 2006 I graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with an M.A. in Bilingual/Bicultural Elementary Education.  During the 2006-2007 school year, I taught fourth grade in a bilingual, self-contained setting at Primary School 377, The Alejandrina Benitez de Gautier School, in Bushwick, Brooklyn.  In the 2007-08 school year I taught the second grade Spanish component in a side-by-side dual-language setting at Primary School 218, the Raphael Hernandez Dual Language Magnet School, in the Bronx.  From September 2008- May 2010 I completed coursework for an M.A. in Spanish Language and Literature at Saint Louis University, Madrid Campus.  During the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school years I worked as an ESL conversation teacher in Madrid. During the 2012-13 school year, I taught third and fourth grades at Humanitas Bilingual School in Tres Cantos, Madrid, Spain. Presently, I am a second grade Spanish Head Teacher at Avenues: The World School in New York City.

In my portfolio, you will find my philosophy of education, which is strongly grounded in communication and authenticity.  Through my experiences in teaching and through my coursework, I have come to see the art of teaching as one that is a constant negotiation of words, meanings and inquiries.  Thus, the very roots of communication are key in any classroom community.  I also believe in using authentic resources within the classroom, as well as providing authentic learning experiences  that involve the students´ own cultures and personal experiences.

You will also find lesson plans, student work, and my personal goals as an educator.  I believe as a responsible educator that it is important to always be an advocate for your students, something that is inherent in being a bilingual educator.  I hope this desire for an authentic and accessible classroom can be seen through this portfolio.

Thank you for your time and enjoy!
